Something Old...Something New

Greetings from frozen Ohio!

The other day, I was going through some of my stuff upstairs and found my box of cassette tapes. I suppose every Baptist preacher has at least some cassettes, and the thought occurred to me that they are not doing anyone any good just sitting in a box. So, I am in the process of converting many of these into mp3 format so that way I can put them on my website and so they will perhaps last longer. Most of them are from King's Addition. For instance, I just added the 1995 Bible Conference, and am in the process of adding the 1996 Bible Conference. You can listen to them at http://audio.faithdelivered.net/ and visit often because more are being added weekly!

Here are some of the preachers you can hear on my website:

Elder James Hobbs
Elder Alvin Green
Elder Fred Halliman
Elder Peter Halliman
Elder Earl Smith
Elder John Lenegar
Elder Fred Roberts
Elder Bob Allard
Elder Don Pennington
Elder Gene Kiger
Elder John Hinson
Elder Mike Prater
Elder Don Shockey
....and many more!

If you have a very slow internet connection, they may not play very good. If that is the case, email me and I will send you a free CD with all the sermons on it in MP3 format.

In Christ,

David Green

Buffalo Valley Baptist Church in Clay WV

On October 16-19, 2008 the Buffalo Valley Baptist in Clay WV had their Bible Conference. Elder John Pruitt, a man I have called a friend for a long time is the pastor there. My wife, kids and I went there and were very blessed! The church did a fantastic job hosting the conference and the messages were very very good.

Recently, I received the CDs from the Bible Conference, so I placed them on my website for everyone else to hear the messages that were preached. You can listen to them by going to http://audio.faithdelivered.net/BuffaloValley.

I have also uploaded quite a number of sermons I have preached. If you are interested in those, please take a look at my website: http://www.faithdelivered.net.

May God's blessings be upon you all.

In His eternal grip,

David M. Green

Rodney Spears

Hello all!

Most of Sovereign Grace Baptist Church is aware that Rodney Spears II, son of missionary Rodney Spears was in a horrible motorcycle wreck several weeks back.  We have been praying for him.

Initially the doctors did not think he would survive, but he has...all because of our Great Physician who apparently has other plans for this man.

Here is a link to the website so you can read about what God has done and is doing in the life of one of His own:  http://www.rodneyspears.org/

Please keep Brother Spears and his family in your prayers!

In Christ,
David M. Green

A Biblical Response to the Election Results

Well, the election is now behind us and the results were not what we had hoped for. The Democrats (Socialists) have won the white house, as well as the majority in the House and the Senate.

There has been a lot of response from this election , and while it did not go the way I had prayed, I am reminded that God's plan is not always our plan. For His own purpose He has allowed this to happen:

"Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. " (Romans 13:1-7)

So, let us remember that God has ordained this to happen. Yes, we have the right to vote. Praise God for it and always practice that right. I sure did! But do not forget that God is the One who is ultimately in charge of this country (and every other country in the world for that matter)! As John Quincy Adams said so long ago: "Duty is ours. Results are God's."

Now, let us give thanks for President George W. Bush and pray for him as he finishes out this term, but also let us give thanks for and pray for our next president. This is what separates our religion from all others. Noticed what God has written in His Word: "I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth." (I Timothy 2:1-4).

No, I do not agree with most of the things today's Democrats stand for. And I sure do not support Barack Obama's liberal ideals on such issues as gun control, abortion, sodomy, higher taxes and bigger government. That is why he did not have my vote.

However, I am trying to be thankful for him and I am praying for him. I must admit the first part is harder than the second part. We can do both even when we do not agree with a man. (Remember when Paul wrote both of the passages we have quoted thus far, he lived under a horrible dictatorship...Worse, much worse, than what we have here in America.) We will see how the next four years go.

Keep in mind, "The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will. " (Proverbs 21:1)

As I end this little post by saying I am grateful to live in America. I am thankful for our Christian heritage, for the freedoms we have today, and for the fact that God has blessed us with so much. And I am thankful to live in a country where a black man could overcome great odds that were not even thought possible a generation ago, to become President of the USA. What a great country we live in!

And if this letter is read by any in the government, please remember, "Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people. " (Proverbs 14:34)

And if any of God's people think all is lost, commit to this passage, "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." (II Chronicles 7:14)

Just Say No To B.O.

Well, apparently a B.O. (Barrack Obama) supporter visited my house this weekend while I was out of town.  The first thing I noticed was that my McCain/Palin sign was gone from my yard.  The second thing I noticed was an Obama/Biden paper on my door.    Guess they never read the 8th commandment nor are they familiar with the 1st Amendment to the US Constitution.

Oh well, still haven't changed my mind.   We're still going to vote on Tuesday for John McCain.  I just received the following in my email.  So I will share it with you today:

> 'Twas the night before elections
> And all through the town
> Tempers flared from hearing
> 'I'm gonna spread the wealth around'!
>
> I, in my bathrobe
> With a cat in my lap
> Had shut off the TV
> Tired of 'political crap'.
>
> When all of a sudden
> There arose such a noise
> I peered out of my window
> To see Obama and his boys
>
> They had come for my wallet
> They wanted my pay
> To give it to others
> Who had not worked a day!
>
> He snatched up my money
> And quick as a wink
> Jumped back on his bandwagon
> As I gagged from the stink
>
> He then rallied his henchmen
> Who were pulling his cart
> I could tell they were out
> to tear my country apart!
>
> On Fannie, on Freddie,
> On Biden and Ayers!
> On Acorn, On Pelosi,
> He screamed at the pairs!
>
> They took off for his cause,
> and as he flew out of sight
> I heard him laugh at the nation
> who wouldn't stand up and fight!
>
> So I leave you to think
> On this one final note-
> IF YOU DONT WANT SOCIALISM
> *GET OUT AND VOTE!!!!*

Vote Nobama 2008

If anyone has seen the back of my vehicle lately, or driven past my house, you will notice I am planning to vote for John McCain this year. Some very good brethren may disagree with this choice, but I believe it to the best one.

First off, this country cannot afford the liberal Obama/Biden ticket. Obviously there are moral issues such as abortion and sodomy at stake. No child of God should even consider voting for anyone who favors those! And then there is the issue of gun control. Do not be deceived, our guns are not safe with a "President Obama."

Secondly, there is more at stake than the next four years. The Supreme Court is divided now. We will see it shift further left with any judges appointed by Obama.  He would appoint those who believe the Constitution (Bill of Rights) are whatever the court interprets them to mean, not what the founding fathers wrote in plain English.  Remember these judges are appointed for life and they will still be a problem for years to come!

There are a host of other key issues that I could list here.  AFA has produced a very good voter guide.  Please look at it and pass it out to your friends and churches.

We must watch out.  Vote Nobama in 2008.  Please join me in voting for McCain on November 4th.  But don't forget to pray!

Excuses

I am still feeling the effects of the Bible Conference at the Buffalo Valley Baptist Church in Clay WV.  Something happened on Sunday morning that very much impressed me.  In order for me to express this, though let me give you a true story.

My grandfather, James E. Hobbs Sr, pastor of King's Addition Baptist Church in South Shore KY left on October 6 to go to the Northwest Territories of Canada.  He went there because their missionary, Elder Wayne Mowris had passed away and there were things that needed to be taken care of and he needed to check on the members of the mission there.  On the way up there, he stopped to pick up Brother Gordon Wiegold, a preacher from the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Roseville CA, who had flown into the airport in Columbus OH.

These two men of God drove all the way up there, spent several days preaching and checking on the work in Canada and then drove home.  It was not a vacation trip, and it was hard physically speaking.  Most people, even those younger than them, and (sad to say) some preachers would have never made such a trip.  Yet their love for the Lord, for His church and His people is what made them do it.

Now, they did not make it to my Grandfather's house until Saturday night, October the 18th.  The Bible Conference was going on in Clay.  They had driven over 6000 miles.  Most people would have stayed in bed and slept late on Sunday morning, missing even their local church service.  But they got up and drove 160 miles to be at the Bible Conference...and neither of them were scheduled to preach there!

That really impressed me and caused me to reflect on how blessed I am to have sat under my Grandfather's teaching for so many years.   Far too many people would have had the excuse of being too tired or having too much to do, but I wonder how legitimate these "excuses" really are.   It would have been very easy for them to have stayed in on Sunday morning and not gone to church at all.  Some folks lay out of church week after week, always having some kind of an excuse.    I thought about a song my grandfather likes to sing, it's called "Excuses" and it goes like this:

Excuses, excuses, you'll hear them every day.
And the Devil he'll supply them, if the church you stay away.
When people come to know the Lord, the Devil always loses
So to keep them folks away from church, he offers them excuses.

In the summer it's too hot. And, in the winter, it's too cold.
In the spring time when the weather's just right, you find some place else to go.
Well, it's up to the mountains or down to the beach or to visit some old friend.
Or, to just stay home and kinda relax and hope that some of the kin folks will start dropping in.

Well, the church benches are too hard. And, that choir sings way too loud.
Boy, you know how nervous you get when you're sitting in a great big crowd.
The doctor told you, "Now, you better watch them crowds. They'll set you back."
But, you go to that old ball game because you say "it helps you to relax."

Well, a headache Sunday morning and a backache Sunday night.
But by worktime Monday morning, you're feeling quite alright.
While one of the children has a cold, "Pneumonia, do you suppose?"
Why the whole family had to stay home, just to blow that poor kid's nose.

Excuses, excuses, you'll hear them every day.
And the Devil he'll supply them if the church you stay away.
When people come to know the Lord, the Devil always loses
So to keep them folks away from church, he offers them excuses.

Well, the preacher he's too young. And, maybe he's too old.
The sermons they're not hard enough. And, maybe they're too bold.
His voice is much too quiet-like. Sometimes he gets too loud.
He needs to have more dignity. Or, else he's way too proud.

Well, the sermons they're too long. And, maybe they're too short.
He ought to preach the word with dignity instead of "stomp and snort."
Well, that preacher we've got must be "the world's most stuck up man."
Well, one of the lady's told me the other day, "Well, he didn't even shake my hand."

Excuses, excuses, you'll hear them every day.
And the Devil he'll supply them if the church you stay away.
When people come to know the Lord, the Devil always loses
So to keep them folks away from church, he offers them excuses.
So to keep them folks away from church, he offers them excuses.

May God send a revival!  We need one so that we would all be like the Psalmist who said, "I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD."  (Psalm 122:1).  Or like the apostles, who " ...daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ."  (Acts 5:42).
